Biofibre® Hair Fibre Implant in Lisbon

Biofibre® is an implant of biocompatible synthetic hair fibres that restores immediate density without surgery and without taking hair from a donor area. Replace Clinic is the exclusive representative in Portugal for Biofibre® by Medicap SARL, offering a solution suited to those seeking an immediate result or who are not candidates for FUE transplantation.

Clinically reviewed by Dr Fátima Garcês, Clinical Director of Replace Clinic — 20 years dedicated to hair restoration.

Key points

  • Immediate hair density, without surgery

  • Biocompatible, reversible fibres

  • Exclusive representative of Biofibre® in Portugal

How Biofibre® works

Biofibre® fibres are implanted one by one into the scalp with a special hook, as a day-case procedure under local anaesthetic. Each fibre is anchored with a knot that holds it firmly in place and allows it to be removed or replaced whenever necessary.

The material is hypoallergenic, durable, and has a texture and colour similar to human hair. The result is visible on the day itself and can be combined with other medical treatments.

Exclusive representative in Portugal

Replace Clinic is the exclusive representative of Biofibre® by Medicap SARL in Portugal. This status means that training, consumables and follow-up all adhere to the manufacturer's official protocols, ensuring safety and predictable results.

Who is a candidate for Biofibre®

Biofibre® stands out as an alternative for patients who do not have enough donor hair, cannot undergo surgery, or want immediate density while awaiting another treatment.

  • Advanced alopecia with insufficient donor area for FUE
  • Surgical contraindication or preference for a non-invasive solution
  • Need for quick density for an event or professional reason
  • Complement to an FUE transplant to increase volume
  • Patients who wish to trial the result before opting for surgery

Tolerance test and safety

Before the full session, a tolerance test is carried out — implanting a small number of fibres, assessed after around 30 days — to confirm that the scalp accepts the material well. Only then does the definitive session proceed.

Biofibre® is contraindicated in cases of active scalp infection or inflammation, uncontrolled dermatitis, active-phase autoimmune disease and impaired wound healing. As with any implant, it requires rigorous hygiene and periodic reviews to prevent folliculitis or fibre extrusion.

Maintenance and durability

Biofibre® fibres remain in place as long as the scalp stays healthy, but they are not permanent: it is normal to lose a percentage of fibres each year, which are replaced during quick maintenance sessions, usually annual.

A periodic clinic review is recommended to adjust density, assess the condition of the scalp and ensure a natural appearance over time.

Frequently asked questions

Is Replace Clinic the only clinic authorised for Biofibre® in Portugal?
Yes. Replace Clinic is the exclusive representative in Portugal for Biofibre® by Medicap SARL, which guarantees that the implant is carried out with the manufacturer's official training and consumables.
Is Biofibre® the same as a hair transplant?
No. Biofibre® uses biocompatible synthetic fibres implanted into the scalp, whereas an FUE transplant moves the patient's own follicles. Each technique has different indications and they can be combined.
How long does the procedure take?
It depends on the number of fibres. A session of 500 to 1,000 fibres usually takes between 1 and 3 hours. The patient leaves the clinic the same day.
Are any special precautions needed?
For the first few days, avoid intense friction, saunas and swimming pools. Washing can resume after 24 to 48 hours, following the clinic's guidance.
Do the fibres look like natural hair?
Yes. Biofibre® fibres are manufactured to mimic the colour, texture and shine of human hair. Colour selection and distribution are agreed with the patient for a discreet result.
